1 Peter 3:18; Galatians 2:20
Why did Jesus die on the cross? Jesus died to save sinners from the punishment of sin. Jesus never sinned. He died to take away the sin that separates us from God. The cross reminds us that Jesus was the spotless (holy, sinless, pure) Lamb of God. He was sacrificed for us. When we believe in Jesus and repent (turn from our sin), God forgives our sins. Jesus makes us God's children and His friends.
